However, what caught fans’ attention was Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon’s message. He stated that “We’re not quite done yet,” followed by a six-second teaser, presumably for Mortal Kombat 12. The teaser shows a stream of sand falling from the bottom of a metallic object, possibly an hourglass. As the sand falls, the camera zooms in on one individual grain, which cracks and blows apart, scattering even more grains around it in the process.
The Significance of Sand
Fans speculate that the sand in the teaser holds more significance than it appears. In Mortal Kombat 11, sand played a crucial role in the game’s storyline. Kronika, the game’s villain, was the Keeper of Time and the Architect of History, who could manipulate space and time using the literal Sands of Time.
