Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy Execute Rapid Chase, Scoring 98 Runs in 5.4 Overs during Rain-Affected SA20 Match

In a rain-affected match during SA20 2024, the Joburg Super Kings successfully chased down a revised target of 98 runs in 5.4 overs against MI Cape Town. The 23rd match of the SA20, originally scheduled for eight overs, was delayed due to rain.

Winning the toss, the Super Kings opted to field first, restricting Cape Town to 80-3 in eight overs, with captain Kieron Pollard contributing significantly with a quick 33 off 10 balls. The Super Kings were then set a revised target of 98 runs in their eight-over innings.

Faf du Plessis and Leus du Plooy opened the innings for Joburg Super Kings with an explosive start. Du Plooy, particularly aggressive, hit the first two balls of the innings for sixes, scoring 18 runs in the opening over bowled by Nuwan Thusara. The momentum continued in the second over, bowled by Kagiso Rabada, as du Plessis hit the first ball for six. Du Plooy followed suit, and the over yielded another 18 runs, taking JSK to 36 off two overs.

The onslaught continued in the third over, bowled by George Linde, where du Plessis and du Plooy accumulated 21 runs. In the fourth over, du Plessis hammered Rabada for three consecutive fours and a six, bringing the total to 77. The Super Kings wrapped up the chase with 10 balls to spare, as du Plessis remained unbeaten on 50 off 20 balls and du Plooy notched 41 off 14. Their combined effort, featuring seven sixes, secured JSK’s second victory of the season in eight games.
