The Call of Duty franchise has been a dominant force in the world of video games since its inception in 2003. Over the years, the franchise has consistently released new games, each offering exciting gameplay experiences. The latest news on the franchise is that the 2023 installment of the best-selling shooter franchise will be named Modern Warfare 3, according to a new Call of Duty leak. In this article, we will explore all the details revealed in the leak and what we can expect from the upcoming game.

The Rumors Surrounding 2023’s Call of Duty Release

Rumors have been swirling around the internet about the future of the Call of Duty franchise. It was rumored that there wouldn’t be a new major Call of Duty release in 2023, which would have marked the first year without a new game in the franchise since 2004. However, it was later claimed that a “premium” DLC for Modern Warfare 2 would take the place of a full game release. This later evolved into a fully fledged standalone game during development, now known as Modern Warfare 3.

Modern Warfare 3: What We Know So Far

The Title and Launch Date

Insider Gaming has reported that Modern Warfare 3 will be the title for the 2023 Call of Duty installment, launching just one year after the release of Modern Warfare 2. The game is rumored to be launched on November 10, 2023.

The Development Team

Infinity Ward has been working on Modern Warfare 2 and providing seasonal content in the months after its release. Meanwhile, Sledgehammer Games, the studio behind Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, WW2, and Vanguard, has been developing the DLC, which has now turned into Modern Warfare 3.

The Gameplay

The upcoming iteration of Modern Warfare 3 is rumored to feature the typical three-pillared offering with a story campaign, multiplayer, and a co-op experience. While Modern Warfare titles have always been the home of Spec-Ops as the co-op mode, Modern Warfare 3 is rumored to instead feature Zombies as a first for the modern military subseries. It is uncertain whether the Zombies mode will be a separate free-to-play title.

The New Warzone Map

An expanded version of Las Almas, a location featured in Modern Warfare 2’s campaign and multiplayer, will serve as the new Warzone map for the game’s first season which will reportedly begin on December 5.

What Fans Are Worried About

With two major installments of the same Call of Duty subseries releasing in back-to-back years, fans are understandably concerned about just how iterative this sequel will turn out to be, especially since it started as DLC. While Sledgehammer Games is a slightly fresher studio, a year and a half removed from the 2021 launch of Call of Duty: Vanguard, it remains to be seen whether the studio can deliver something special.
